EMELITA Diaz broke down in tears after seeing her daughter Hidilyn for the first time in months at Terminal 3 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
The elder Diaz never felt prouder for her daughter following her silver medal-winning feat in the Rio De Janeiro Olympics.
Emelita said she never doubted for one second that her daughter will win a medal in the Olympics. Her belief became even stronger when she learned that the date of her competition, August 7, fell on her birthday.
“Ang lakas ng kutob ko kasi bakit ‘yung competition niya, August 7 pa. Sabi ko, eto na siguro ‘yung regalo ng Diyos sa kanya,” the elder Diaz, speaking in Chavacano, said through an interpreter.
Hidilyn said she is offering the medal to her parents Eduardo Sr. and Emelita, who flew in an airplane for the first time from Zamboanga City to Manila.
“Pinapakita niya na mahal na mahal niya ako, yung prayers niya, pag-cha-chat, pagtawag sa akin. Mahal na mahal ko po siya,” said Hidilyn of her mom.
Emelita's only wish now that her daugther is home is for Hidilyn to complete her promise of building a weightlifting gym in Zamboanga.
“Tuparin lang niya ‘yung promise niya na bibilihin ‘yung katabing lupa para sa weightlifting gym,” Emelita said.
“Iba talaga ‘yung kasiyahan ko,” the proud mother added.
