THE future looks bright for Philippine weightlifting after Dessa Delos Santos took three silver medals in the recently-concluded Asian Youth and Junior Championship in Tokyo, Japan.
The 17-year-old Delos Santos finished in the podium in the 53kg category youth division, winning medals for ending up second in the snatch, clean and jerk, and total lift.
Delos Santos is seen by weightlifting officials as the future of the sport and a possible heir apparent to Rio Olympics silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz, who is being froomed for a shot at the gold in Tokyo in 2020.
Also winning medals in the event were John Paolo Rivera and Rosegie Ramos.
The 15-year-old Rivera copped two bronze medals in the clean and jerk and total lift in the 50kg category, while Rosegie Ramos, 13, took the bronze in the snatch of the 44kg youth division.
