THE Philippine women's volleyball team started its 17-day training in Japan with a scrimmage against top Japanese club team Okayama Seagulls on Tuesday (Manila time).
Skipper Mika Reyes, Alyssa Valdez Aby Maraño, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, Jaja Santiago, Ces Molina, Gen Casugod, Maika Ortiz, Rhea Dimaculangan, Kim Fajardo, Denden Lazaro, Kim Dy and Dawn Macandili joined the top Japanese club team in a three-hour morning practice from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the host's team gym in Okayama City.
The Japanese coach gave the Philippine team, fresh from a 10-hour flight, a light welcome training before the real work begins on Wednesday.
Before the team's first workout, Reyes and Valdez along with team leader Cielo Suzara were presented to the mayor of Okayama City.

The team will resume training later in the day with a friendly match with the Seagulls.
