THE Philippine women’s volleyball team will enter the Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship in high spirits after a tough 17-day training camp in Japan, according to skipper Mika Reyes.
"Maganda, maganda (ang experience), high morale entering the tournament, the Asian Seniors," said Reyes upon the team's arrival on Wednesday afternoon.
The Philippines hosts The AVC Asian Senior Women's Championship from August 9 to 17 before the national women’s team leaves for the 29th Southeast Asian Games set August 19 to 31 in Kuala Lumpur.
Philippine Airlines flight 407 carrying Reyes, Alyssa Valdez, Jaja Santiago, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Aby Maraño, Gen Casugod, Maika Ortiz, Ces Molina, Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, Rhea Dimaculangan, Kim Fajardo, Kim Dy, Denden Lazaro, Dawn Macandili, team officials and coaches arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport looking tired but full of confidence.
"So far, maganda ang result, kahit papaano nandyan na 'yung pattern, nandyan na 'yung agressivenes ng bawat player and masasabi ko nag-iimprove talaga kami," said Reyes.
The Philippine had drills in the morning and friendly matches in the afternoon against top Japanese club teams and college squads, suffering huge losses in the first week before managing to score wins over Kobe Shinwa, Osaka superiors and Kansai University towards the end of the camp.
"Maganda siyang experience kasi hindi kami umuwing talo, although hindi naman kami naghahabol ng panalo pero we're looking for the experience talaga," she added.
