Alyssa Valdez has been the face of women’s volleyball in the Philippines for the past few years, and it’s easy to see why: She’s a three-time high school MVP, three-time collegiate MVP, multi-medalled champion, and a national team member, to boot. Her scoring prowess and all-around game have made her synonymous with the sport.
Having said that, it’s hard to imagine Alyssa ever pursuing any career outside of volleyball. But, as she shares in this latest video from FERN-C, she never had her eyes on the court growing up. Did you know that this volleyball prodigy once aspired to become a teacher? Watch this:
Alyssa has the same kind of drive that rubs off on kids and motivates them to be their best selves. She’s a patient teammate and a willing mentor. Her kind nature makes her the type to never give up on anyone, either.
“I’ve always believed in the value of perseverance and dedication,” she points out. By leading through example, Alyssa hopes to inspire others to never quit, and to work hard to reach their goals. That’s the sort of teacher every kid needs.
Her tremendous success in volleyball doesn’t mean she has to give up on that dream, either. As she says in the video, “I may not be a teacher now, but maybe someday, I will. For today, I will continue to play the game I love with all my heart, mind, and strength.”
Until the day she’s done with the court, however, she’ll choose to be number one at what she does, and that means being in top shape with the help of FERN-C.
