It was all business for Vietnam’s one-two punch in Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen and Tranh Thi Thanh Thuy (T4), who erupted for 43 combined points to complete a repeat against the sade they beat in last year’s title game.
With Kazakhstan still without injured ace scorer Sana Anarkulova, 21-year-old winger Perizat Nurbergenova carried the fight with 20 points and dealt Vietnam their first set loss of the entire tournament.
The hosts are one step closer from a three-peat in the annual continental tournament and secure an outright spot in the 2026 Asian Championship.
Vietnam took down Indonesia (2023) and Kazakhstan (2024) in the competition’s last two editions to maintain a stronghold of its regional women’s volleyball dominance.
Once the penultimate day of Nations Cup action comes to a close, Alas Pilipinas could either become the next challengers to the Vietnamese reign or repeat contenders for the bronze in a grudge match with the Kazakhs on Saturday.
