COACH Ronald Dulay passed away on Monday night due to bone marrow disease. He was 48.
Marinerang Pilipina manager Jed Montero, who was Dulay’s former player at University of the Philippines, confirmed on Facebook that the Lady Skippers coach has died.
Volleyball players and fans took to social media to express their grief.
Dulay played for three UAAP volleyball champion teams with Far Eastern University in the 90s before becoming a coach.
He called the shots for La Salle men’s volleyball team and won two UAAP championships in 2001 and 2003 before his coaching gig in the women’s division.
The veteran tactician also coached the women’s squads of UP and Letran. He returned to the Green Spikers in 2014 but it only lasted until 2016 after finishing with 4-8 win-loss record in Season 78.
Dulay served as assistant coach for the Philippine women’s volleyball team under Ramil De Jesus in the 2005 Southeast Asian Games, where the team won bronze, and Francis Vicente in the 2017 edition.
He also became part of Foton and Generika-Ayala’s coaching staff in the Philippine Superliga.
Dulay was the head coach of Smart in the 2018 Grand Prix before transferring to Marinerang Pilipina in last year’s All-Filipino Conference.
Dulay still served as assistant to new Marinerang Pilipina head coach Vilet Ponce-De Leon in this year’s Grand Prix, which only lasted for few games due to the coronavirus pandemic.
