HEZZYMIE Acuña and Pauline Genido showed the way as Philippine Navy whipped Philippine Coast Guard, 26-24, 25-14, 25-18, on Sunday in the Shakey's V-League Season 12 Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan.

Acuña scored 12 points and Genido added 10 as the Lady Sailors joined Cagayan Valley in the early lead.

Team captain Lilet Mabbayad scored nine, Carissa Martinez chipped in eight and former Perpetual Help spiker Norie Jane Diaz contributed seven for Navy, which is hoping to be able match the big teams such as Philippine Army and star-studded PLDT despite playing together for only a month.

"Four weeks pa lang kami nagpa-practice pero maganda na ang pinakita nila kanina," said Philippine Navy coach Edgardo Rusit.

"Konting tyaga pa makukuha rin namin, aabot din kami sa kanila, Cagayan, Army, PLDT," he added.

Former St. Benilde spiker Rossan Fajardo had 18 points from 15 hits, two blocks and a service ace for the Lady Dolphins, who share the bottom spot with Fourbees-Perpetual.
