INSTITUTO Estetico Manila avenged its first round loss to Rizal Technological University, scoring a quick 25-14, 25-22, 25-16 win on Tuesday at The Arena in San Juan to grab a share of the lead in the V-League Foreign Reinforced Conference.

Jeffrey Jimenez had 13 points for the Phoenix Volley Masters, while Karl de la Calzada and cousins Eden and Jason Canlas contributed seven markers each.

IEM, which bowed to RTU, 22-25, 27-25, 25-12, 27-29, 11-15, in their first meeting, took only an hour and 19 minutes to seal the win.

It was the Volley Masters’ second straight win, joining Systema at the top with 3-1 win-loss cards.

IEM coach Jun Balubar said he had to push his players to work harder this time after playing too relaxed in their first match against RTU.

“In our first game masyadong relaxed na naglead sa pagkumpyansa, iniisip nila na ok lang ’yan tambakan tayo hahabol na lang,” he said.

“Ngayon nilagyan ko ng konting pressure, I told them to work for the first five points then kung kayang habaan, habaan pa.”

“I’m happy that they executed well, kahit sa bench ang relax," he added. "This kind of atmosphere is I want to see (in the team)."

IEM had five service aces against none by RTU, which actually registered a higher number of successful serve reception (21-14).

Abdul Jaidal came up with six points for RTU, which handed IEM 11 points through errors.
