Army completes five-match sweep to take top spot, PLDT secures No. 2 seeding in V-League semis

VICTORIA Hurtt debuted with a 21-hit performance and Sareea Freeman scored 15 hits as PLDT Home Ultera edged Kia Forte, 25-12, 25-12, 23-25, 25-21, on Saturday to clinch a twice-to-beat edge in the semifinal round of the Shakey's V-League Season 12-Reinforced Conference elims at The Arena in San Juan City.

Hurtt, one of two imports recently tapped by PLDT, had 20 kills as the Ultra Fast Hitters foiled Kia Forte’s semis playoff bid and towed University of the Philippines and Navy to the semifinals.

PLDT finished the single round eliminations with a 4-1 card for No. 2 after Army sealed the top seeding with a 5-0 sweep capped by a 23-25, 25-18, 25-14, 25-23 victory over University of the Philippines.

Honey Royse Tubino had a career-high 28-hit performance, while Jovelyn Gonzaga added 17 hits, including a spike against Sheena Chopitea at center to wrap up the one-hour and 38-minute victory for Army.

UP, led by Isabel Molde’s 15 hits and Justine Dorog’s 12 markers, ended up with a 2-3 record in a tie with Navy but the Lady Maroons nipped the Lady Sailors in the tiebreak for the No. 3 spot.

Kia wound up with a 1-4 mark for a share of the bottom of the six-team tournament with Coast Guard.

The crossover semis will be played on Sunday, with Army battling Navy and PLDT going up against UP.

Janine Marciano had 10 points, Aiza Maizo-Pontillas scored nine and Sue Roces had seven markers for PLDT.

Sheila Pineda and Alexa Micek ended up with 10 hits apiece, while Danielle Castaneda and Wenneth Eulalio combined for 17 points for Kia Forte.
