Shorthanded Laoag proves strong enough to beat Iriga in Shakey's V-League
Jessica Gallanza powered Laoag with 16 points.

LAOAG bounced back from an opening-game day loss as it turned back Iriga City, 25-10, 25-23, 20-25, 25-15, in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan on Monday.

Adamson pair Jessica Galanza and Mylene Paat finished with 16 and 11 points, respectively, for the Power Smashers, who came from a 21-25, 25-20, 23-25, 21-25, loss to National University on Saturday.

“Ang sabi ko lang sa kanila, ipakita niyo kung ano ang ineensayo natin, i-apply natin kung ano ang nasa training,” said Laoag coach Nes Pamilar.

The Power Smashers, who took an hour and 41 minutes to win the match, won despite being undermanned as Arellano duo of Eunice Galang and Jovelyn Prado were in Baguio for the Intercollegiate.

“Siguro natapat din. Mas napaganda sa amin kasi na sabihin natin na kulang kami, ilan sa starting six namin wala ‘yung liber at si Prado may tournament sa Baguio may Intercollegiate, pero ayun nga napaganda pa. Swerte lang,” said the veteran coach.

The Power Smashers, who capitalized on Iriga’s 43 errors compared to their 23 miscues, evened their card, 1-1.

Grazielle Bombita finished with 16 points for Iriga, while Jose Rizal U standout Shola Alvarez added 13.

The Lady Uragons absorbed their second straight loss in as many games.
