TACLOBAN overcame Petro Gazz, 25-17, 27-25, 21-25, 14-25, 15-13, to atone for a debut loss in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.

Thai import Hyapha Amporn finished with 23 points while skipper Jovielyn Prado added 18 markers  for the Fighting Warays, who made up for a loss to PayMaya in the season opener.

“Nagkakaroon na ng tiwala sa isa't isa eh, kaya nga noong fifth set, sabi ko magtiwala lang tayo sa isa't isa, magtulungan lang,” said Petro Gazz coach Nes Pamilar.

“Kasi nakita naman natin na pati ‘yung character ng bawat isa, lumaban talaga,” he added.

Tacloban was ahead, 12-10, in the fifth and final set when Ukrainian import Anastasiia Trach delivered the goods for Petro Gazz and tied the contest at 13-13.

Former Jose Rizal University star and NCAA MVP Shola Alvarez pushed the Fighting Warays to match point before Thai import Sasiwimol Sangpan ended the match on a block of Trach’s attack.

“Noong (lamang na) naglolokohan na sila, sinabi ko ‘Di pa tayo tapos, bakit kailangan natin biru-biruin 'yung laro.' Kaya nga noong natalo after noon, pinagsabihan ko, bumaba ang laro,” said Pamilar.

“So pagdating ng fifth set, sabi ko buuin natin ulit. Another position na lang tayo, tingnan natin kung anong mangyayari, basta kailangan mag-tiyaga lang,” he added.

Trach led the Angels with 27 points while team captain Paneng Mercado added 20 and Rachel Austero had 10.

Petro Gazz remained absorbed its second strlaight oss in as many games while playing without Estonian reinforcement Kadi Kullerkann, who injured her left knee during training.
