Surprising Ateneo Lady Eagles complete sweep of FEU, reach V-League finals
The Lady Eagles are back in the finals in their first tournament without Alyssa Valdez.

ATENEO repulsed Far Eastern University, 25-23, 24-26, 25-19, 25-23, on Wednesday to arrange a Shakey's V-League Collegiate Conference finals rematch with National University.

The Lady Eagles erased a 20-16 deficit in the fourth set and went on a 9-2 spurt to complete a sweep of the best-of-three semifinal series against the top-seeded Lady Tamaraws at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.

"Yung tiyaga at sacrifice ng mga bata sa practice nag-payoff ngayon," said assistant coach Sherwin Meneses.

From four points down in the fourth set, Ateneo gained steam and regained the lead behind Bea De Leon, 22-21.

The Lady Eagles capitalized on FEU's unforced errors from there including the service error that spelled doom for the Lady Tamaraws, who were still without injured stalwart Bernadeth Pons.

De Leon scored 20 points for the Lady Eagles, who will return to the finals of the midseason conference in their first major tournament without former star Alyssa Valdez.

Michelle Morente and Kassandra Gequillana chipped in 15 and 12 markers, respectively.

FEU was paced by Toni Rose Basas, who scored 17 points for the team that shifted into high gear early in the fourth rame but sputtered in the end.

Remy Palama added 13.
