POCARI Sweat bagged its second straight win after it shut the door on University of the Philippines, 25-20, 25-16, 25-23, in the Shakey’s V-League Reinforced Conference at The Arena in San Juan on Saturday.

American import Bre Mackie led the Lady Warriors with 23 points, including four of the last five points in the match. Mackie built her offense on 16 kills, while adding seven digs.

After a five-setter loss to Philippine Air Force in their first match, Pocari Sweat improved to 2-1.

“Nakikita namin na medyo gumaganda na ‘yung laro ng mga players, medyo nagji-jell na,” said Pocari Sweat coach Rommel Abella.

“Pero kung ia-assess siguro namin sila, nasa 85 to 90 percent pa lang so there’s still a lot more to improve on, especially our receive. We’ll focus on it sa mga susunod naming mga training,” he added.

UP threatened to extend the match after taking a slim two-point lead, 22-20, in the third set but Mackie, who took over for Pocari Sweat, went on a tear to seal the win.

Marian Buitre made eight points for the Lady Maroons, while Isa Molde and Justine Dorog added six markers apiece as UP dropped to 1-3.
