Shorthanded Pocari Sweat looks to keep clean slate in V-League against lowly Iriga

UNDEFEATED Pocari Sweat aims to cement its hold at the top and enter the semifinals on a roll when it faces lowly Iriga in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Open Conference at Blue Eagle Gym in Ateneo on Saturday.

The Lady Warriors currently lord over the standings with a perfect 4-0 win-loss card, while the Lady Uragons are down at 1-3.

But while the league leaders battle without injured stars Michele Gumabao and Myla Pablo due to injuries, Pocari Sweat coach Rommel Abella is confident his wards will be up to the task the same way they do in training.

“We’re taking this tournament one game a time pa rin,” said Abella.

“Kasi sa training namin equal opportunities for all, so kapag pumapalo sina Myla, pumapalo rin ‘yung iba so nothing special in terms of preparation,” he added.

In their previous match against Baguio, Gumabao and Pablo already sat out due to core and back pains, respectively. But Cai Nepomuceno and Rossan Fajardo rose to the occasion to help the Lady Warriors turn back the Summer Spikers, 25-18, 25-17, 25-17.

Iriga, however, are eager to play spoiler against Pocari Sweat.

The Lady Uragons, who are coming off straight-sets loss, 15-25, 16-25, 18-25, to National University, look to bounce back behind Jose Rizal University spiker Shola Alvarez, while Bicolana Grazielle Bombita hopes to improve from her dismal performance in their last outing.
