POCARI Sweat battled back from two sets down to hack out a thrilling 21-25, 6-25, 26-24, 27-25, 19-17 win over Bali Pure in a marathon duel pitting the two most popular teams in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Open Conference.

Myla Pablo scored on an off-the-block hit as the Lady Warriors finally clinched the come-from-behind victory after blowing a six-point lead in the fifth set as well as five match points in a match witnessed by a big crowd at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.

Returning from a back injury, Pablo unloaded 24 points while Elaine Kasilag finished with 20 points as Pocari remained undefeated in six matches, moving within a win of sweeping the single-round eliminations.

“Happy kami kasi nanalo kami sa game pero hindi kami kuntento,” said Pocari Sweat coach Rommel Abella.

The Lady Warriors showed no sign of gloom after being beaten up in the second set as they regained composure and momentum in the third and fourth sets.

Pocari Sweat was off to a good start in the fifth set as it took a, 9-2, lead before Bali Pure tied the contest, 12-12.

The see-saw battle ended when Ayssa Valdez committed a service error and Pablo sealed the win via an off the block attack that hit Dzi Gervacio’s arms.

“Kakatapos ng isang set back to zero talaga (ang mentality) so manalo, matalo kailangan i-push nang i-push ang mga bata kasi kung hindi lalo lang mababaon, lalo lang madedepress so lalo lang kaming matatalo,” said Abella.

“So wala kaming magagawa kundi i-push ang mga bata kasi alam namin ang mga capabilities nila eh so konting push lang para mailabas nila ang kakayahan nila,” he added.

After a second set massacre Kasilag held on their battle cry that they came to the venue to win.

“Noong pagkatapos ng second set sinabi namin sa isa’t-isa na third set is another set, back to zero angat tayo, dapat mauuna tayo sa kanila, alagwa agad tayo,” she said. “Kasi hindi tayo pumunta dito para magpatalo, pumunta tayo dito para maglaro at manalo.”

Valdez had 32 points but her efforts went down the drain as the Purest Water Dedenders dropped to 5-2.

Gervacio and Amy Ahomiro also added 11 points apiece for Bali Pure.
