Meralco faces prospect of playing sans import in Shakey's V-League game against PLDT

NOW Meralco will try to make it to the win column of the Shakey’s V-League Season 11 Foreign Reinforced Conference without the help of an import.

The Power Attackers tackle PLDT on Thursday at The Arena in San Juan with the possibility of Thai reinforcement Wanida Kotruang and Japanese import Maica Morada not suiting up in the 6 p.m. match.

Not until the two secure an International Transfer Certificate from the FIVB will they be allowed to play for Meralco.

Ricky Palou, president of the organizing Sports Vision, said on Tuesday the league got word from the Thai Volleyball Association that foreign players who plays in other countries need to secure an ITC first.

The league official said the organizer will try to clear the matter before the FIVB.

But in the meantime, the Power Attackers will need to lean on locals Aby Marano, Paneng Mercado, and Maica Morada as they try to bounce back from a three-set loss to Philippine Army (25-19, 25-18, 25-18) on opening day despite having Kotruang and Morada in their lineup.

Meanwhile, Far Eastern University tries to spoil the debut of Rizal Technological University when the two teams go up against each other in the men’s division at 4 p.m.

The Tamaraws lost their first game against Systema on Tuesday, 25-14, 25-18, 25-19, 25-9, 15-9.
