Lady Sailors end two-game slide with hard-earned five-set V-League win over Lady Altas

PHILIPPINE Navy put an end to its two-game slide after turning back Fourbees-Perpetual, 23-25, 25-12, 25-15, 20-25, 15-11, in the Shakey’s V-League Season 12 Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan on Thursday.

Lilet Mabbayad unloaded 22 points, from 12 hits, eight blocks and two service aces for the Lady Sailors who evened their record at 2-2.

Carissa Martinez added 14, Norie Jane Diaz chipped in 11, and Hezzymie Acuna and Jolina Labiano each had 10 for Navy.

After trailing almost the entire fourth set, the Lady Sailors recovered in the deciding set to take a slim 6-5, lead.

It took a 10-8 breather before a 4-2 spurt allowed the team to move to match point, 14-12.

 Fourbees-Perpetual saved match point, 11-14, but the Lady Sailors weren’t to be denied as they finally finished off the Lady Altas.

It was a close battle at the net as Navy scored 18 blocks, while Fourbees-Perpetual had 14, but the Lady Sailors capitalized on their first ball and rained out eight service aces against the two of the Lady Altas in a match that took two hours and six minutes to finish.

Skipper Ana Diocareza and Cindy Imbo fired 12 points for Fourbees-Perpetual, while Jamela Suyat added 11.

The Lady Altas dropped to 1-3 card for a share of sixth spot with Baguio.
