PayMaya beats Tacloban in straight sets in opener of PVL Reinforced Conference

PAYMAYA defeated Tacloban, 25-8, 33-31, 25-20, to start its campaign in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference on a high note on Sunday at The Arena in San Juan.

Tess Rountree had 22 points and 11 digs, while fellow American import Shelby Sullivan scored 15 in the one hour and 18-minute match.

“Ok naman, hindi lang sila ‘yung napaka kung pumalo ng bola lumalagabog pero makikita mo naman very smart maglaro,” said PayMaya coach Roger Gorayeb.

“Lalo na si Shelby, hindi naman ganoon kalakas pumalo ng quick, si Tess naman ibabaw na ibabaw pumalo. Sinasabi ko nga we don’t need powerful attacks we just have to be smarter than the opponent,” he added.

Grethcel Soltones, who had nine points, while Celine Domingo and setter Jasmin Nabor each had six markers.

Skipper Jovielyn Prado scored 12 points for Tacloban.
