UNIVERSITY of Sto. Tomas eyes solo second spot when it battles winless University of the Philippines as the round-robin quarterfinals continue on Saturday in the Shakey’s V-League Collegiate Conference at The Arena in San Juan.

The Tigresses won a five-set match against Arellano last week to force a three-way tie at second with the National U Lady Bulldogs and the Far Eastern U Lady Tamaraws at 3-1.

A victory in its 12:45 p.m. match with UP will give UST solo second place behind unbeaten Ateneo (4-0). The Tigresses next take on title contenders NU and FEU.

UST coach Emil Reyes stressed they are not thinking of the matches against NU and FEU, yet, as they prepare for the upset-conscious Lady Maroons in the midseason conference of the league presented by PLDT Home Ultera.

The power-hitting EJ Laure, skipper Pam Lastimosa, Chlodia Cortez, Marivic Meneses and Jessey de Leon along with guest setter Alyssa Teope hope to sustain their form against the Lady Maroons.

But expect the Diliiman-based squad to pour it all out behind Isabel Molde, Justine Dorog, Diana Carlos, Marian Buitre, Alyssa Layug and playmaker Jewel Lai as the Lady Maroons try to salvage the win and keep their slim semifinal hopes alive in the conference sponsored by Shakey’s and backed by Mikasa and Accel.

The match will be aired live at 12:45 p.m. on GMA News TV Channel 11. The matches, including the 3 p.m. duel between Ateneo and Arellano, can also be viewed live via streaming on www.v-league.ph.

The Lady Eagles brace for a tough outing against the Lady Chiefs, who are in a must-win situation with a 2-2 card.

Standings : Ateneo 4-0, NU 3-1, FEU 3-1, UST 3-1, Arellano 2-2, La Salle-Dasma 1-3, St. Benilde 0-4, UP 0-4
