Shakey's V-League All Stars pose for posterity.

TEAM Palaban showed grit to turn back the Alyssa Valdez-led Team Puso, 25-21, 19-25, 25-15, 25-22, in the 2016 Shakey’s V-League All-Star Game at the PhilSports Arena on Sunday.

University of Santo Tomas skiper Sisi Rondina put on a show with 13 points, 12 digs and entertained the crowd with a couple of acrobatic acts before her services for Team Palaban.

Isa Molde, who was the Collegiate Conference 1st Best Outside Spiker, added 10 points, nine blocks and 13 aces for Team Palaban under Pocari Sweat coach Rommel Abella.

Rivals Amy Ahomiro of Bali Pure and Pocari Sweat pillars Michele Gumabao and libero Melissa Gohing teamed up for the first time for the charity game that will benefit victims of Super Typhoon Lawin.

“Masaya sobra kasi kahit through our skills na binigay ni God, nakakatulong kami,” said Rondina.

Jocemer Tapic of Philippine Air Force sparkled for Team Puso with 14 points, while Bureau of Customs superstar Valdez added 12 markers.

“Sobrang saya kasi ang daming tumulong, ang daming tao, saka volleyball players from Ate Wendy (Semana) to the youngest, Sisi, mga taga-UST,” said Valdez.

“Parang ang sarap sa pakiramdam na nagkakaisa tayo para sa mga Pilipino na nabiktima ng Typhoon Lawin at gusto natin sila mapasaya sa Pasko,” she added.

Aside from the fun-filled volleyball match, fans were treated to an autograph signing and few photo opportunities with their idols.

To add to the donation, four signed volleyballs were put up for auction after the event.

Other members of Team Palaban were Ateneo setter Jia Morado, Diana Carlos and Marianne Buitre of University of the Philippines, Ria Meneses of UST and Pocari Sweat’s Myla Pablo and Gyzelle Sy.

Bali Pure spiker Dzi Gervacio and libero Denden Lazaro joined former Ateneo teammate Valdez in Team Puso with Laoag top hitter Jema Galanza and Wenneth Eulalio, Air Force setter Semana, UST spiker EJ Laure, Pocari Sweat middle blocker Elaine Kasilag, BoC’s Fenela Emnas and Nicole Tiamzon of UP.

Earlier, Team Galaw, bannered by Ateneo’s Mark Espejo, Ish Polvorosa and Rex Intal, De La Salle’s Raymark Woo and Geuel Asia, blasted Team Galaw, 25-21, 25-23, 18-25, 25-20, in the first-ever Spikers’ Turf All-Star Game.
