DEFENDING champion Far Eastern University dealt newcomer University of Batangas a 25-20, 25-18, 25-10 beating in the Shakey’s V-League Season 12 Collegiate Conference at The Arena in San Juan on Saturday.

Sophomore Toni Basas came through with 12 points for the Lady Tamaraws, who needed just one hour and 12 minutes to dispatch the league newcomers in a performance that pleased coach Shaq delos Santos.

So dominant were the Lady Tamaraws that they hardly found a need for guest player Jovelyn Gonzaga, who played just two sets and scored four points.

Delos Santos said he was pleased to see his collegiate players shine despite the presence of Gonzaga and another guest player in Honey Tubino, saying this augurs well for the team's UAAP buildup.

“Masaya ako kasi panalo. Si Jov ‘di pa nakakapag-practice, si Royse naman kahapon pa lang. Hopefully maging okay sched nila pero happy ako kasi ‘yung UAAP team namin okay ang performance,” he said.

Skipper Mary Palma chipped in nine points while sophomore Heather Guino-o and Tubino added eight markers apiece for an FEU team that dominated all the statistical departments.

The Lady Tamaraws imposed their might at the net with a 7-1 blocking edge, had more services aces (13-3) and had a total of 29 excellent digs against the 17 of UB.

Cyren Montecer made eight markers to pace UB.
