Mind over matter as Bernadeth Pons shakes off flu to rejoin FEU Lady Tamaraws
Bernadeth Pons was still under the weather for the game against NU. Dante Peralta

FAR Eastern University spiker Bernadeth Pons shook off cough, colds and fever to lead the Lady Tamaraws closer to the semifinals of the V-League Season 13 Collegiate Conference on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.

The incoming fifth year outside hitter was not feeling well but did not let that keep her from suiting up for the Lady Tamaraws, especially after a five-setter loss to National University.

Pons led the way for FEU in the 27-25, 25-20, 25-11 victory that improved the team's record to 3-1.

“Mind over matter na lang sa lahat ng bagay. Iniisip ko na lang kailangan ko mag-perform para makatulong sa team,” said Pons, who finished with 17 points, anchored on 16 kills and nine digs.

“’Di naman (sinat), kaso ang bigat nung pakiramdam ko kasi kakabalik lang ng ensayo tapos game agad,” she added.

The 19-year old FEU volleybelle, whose team reached the UAAP Final Four in Season 78 but fell short of the Finals, noted that the team has vastly improved and felt the need to play despite feeling under the weather to show solidarity.

“Ngayon kasi ang team namin, ‘di na siya basta-basta papatalo, kahit matambakan, kayang humabol, tapos nade-develop na maturity and consistency andun na,” said Pons.

FEU will end its campaign in the round-robin quarterfinals against Ateneo on Wednesday.
