Meralco off to solid start in Open Conference, ends long losing streak at expense of Navy

MERALCO started its Open Conference campaign on a bright note, downing Philippine Navy, 25-20, 25-21, 25-21, on Tuesday in the Shakey's V-League at The Arena in San Juan.

It was a fine outuing for the Lady Spikers, who entered the tournament on an eight-match skid after going winless in last year’s Foreign Reinforced Conference.

Cha Cruz led the way with 15 points, while Maica Morada and Aby Maraño combined for 24 points for Meralco, which is now being handled by coach Brian Esquibel.

The Power Spikers took an hour and 23 minutes to finish the match and grabbed a share of the early lead with PLDT and Cagayan.

Esquibel was pleased to see some solid plays from his top players, who play for rival teams in the Philippine Super Liga.
