CAGAYAN Valley bagged third place after a 25-14, 25-19, 20-25, 25-19 win over Meralco on Sunday in the Shakey’s V-League Season 12 Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan.

Aiza Maizo-Pontillas scored 21 points, 19 on spikes, Janine Marciano registered 16 points, seven digs and four excellent reception, while Rosemarie Vargas had 15 markers for the Lady Rising Suns.

Injury plagued Cagayan Valley capped its stint with a sweep of the best-of-three battle for third. The Lady Rising Suns defeated the Power Spikers on Thursday, 25-23, 25-21, 25-23.

“Late na kami naka-recover dahil sa dami ng injuries namin kaya hindi na rin namin kayang habulin ang nasa taas,” said Cagayan Valley coach Nes Pamilar.

Skipper Angge Tabaquero suffered a right shoulder injury during the eliminations and missed the remainder of the tournament, while Marciano also sat out a couple of games due to a stressed left shin before seeing action again in the semifinals.

“Malaking kawalan talaga si Angge, ’yung leadership niya, nadadala niya talaga ang team,” said Pamilar.

Cha Cruz had 15 points, while Paneng Mercado scored 10 for Meralco.
