PAYBACK time is what Ateneo’s motivation will be against National University when the two teams clash in the Shakey’s V-League Season 12 Collegiate Conference finals starting Sunday at The Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Eagles lost to the Lady Bulldogs for the championship two years ago, 25-23, 25-19, 17-25, 26-24, in a classic Game Three at the Philsports Arena in Pasig as NU snapped a 50-year title drought in women’s volleyball.

Back Roger Gorayeb was still calling the shots for Ateneo, which Rachel Anne Daquis as guest player.

Veteran setter Rubie de Leon meanwhile, was NU’s reinforcement, who eventually scored the winning point for the team.

“Oo kasama pa namin si ate Rachel, pero si ate Ruby nasa kabilang side (sa) NU,” Ateneo star Alyssa Valdez recalled. “Oo 'yun nga talo kami. Game 3 din 'yun.”

“Coach namin noon si coach Roger. Oh my God, tagal na pala nun,” gushed Valdez.

After his five-year contract with Ateneo ended, Gorayeb moved over to NU early this year.

“Ngayon against naman kami kay coach Roger,” said the two-time UAAP MVP.

The 22-year old pride of San Juan, Batangas though, is not about to focus on the match up between the two teams and instead is thinking about the experience the Lady Eagles can gain in preparation for the coming UAAP season.

“Siguro it’s a new team, it’s a brand new start kasi mga bata rin ang mga kasama ko inside,” she said.

“First time din namin magsasama together as a team sina Jho (Maraguinot), sina Gizelle (Tan), sina Kim (Giequillana) so I’m happy sana. Ang gusto lang naman ng mga coaches ay 'yung maturity, 'yung learning, and 'yung experience na we can get sa mga upcoming games pa namin dito.”
