DEFENDING champion Army goes for the third semifinal berth as it faces winless Coast Guard, while Navy tries to stay in the race for a playoff for the last seat in the round of four when it takes on also-ran Baguio on Thursday in the Shakey's V-League Season 12-Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan City.

The Troopers are on a three-match winning streak and area heavily favored against the Lady Dolphins, who are already out of the semfinal picture with a 0-5 win-loss record.

The match starts at 4 p.m. with Army coach Rico de Guzman expected to use the match to try new combinations in preparation for the semifinals.

The league takes a nine-day break starting on Friday to give way to the staging of the Asian Women’s Under-23 Volleyball Championship where some of the V-League players will play for the Philippine team.

Navy finishes its elimination-round schedule as it battles also-ran Baguio in the 2 p.m. match.

With a 2-4 card, the Lady Sailors need to win on Thursday and hope that Meralco and Perpetual Help, toting identical 2-3 cards, would not reach three wins.
