“They played extra inspired and motivated and we didn’t do our part as a team also,” said Valdez after the straight sets loss.

Valdez is looking to bounce back from a dismal nine-point performance and hopes the Lady Eagles can learn from the loss and be ready for the title decider next Sunday.

“I think it’s gonna be same sa last na pagkatalo namin,” Valdez said, referring to the loss to University of Santo Tomas in the second match in the semifinals before the Lady Eagles bounced back to win the best-of-three series.

“I hope na maging learning experience ito para sa amin I hope na we can correct our mistakes and be consistent and be motivated also and inspired this coming Sunday.”

Ateneo is also looking to avoid a repeat of loss to NU in a title showdown two years ago.

Valdez, with guest player Rachel Anne Daquis and Thai import Jeng Bualee and mentored by now NU coach Roger Gorayeb won the opener of the title series only to lose the next two matches.

“We’re hoping for a good game this Sunday kasi for sure NU is going to give us a good fight, a hell of a fight,” she added.
