CAGAYAN Valley snapped its two-game losing skid as it humbled First Conference champion Ateneo, 25-19, 27-25, 25-16, on Sunday in the 9th Shakey’s V League Open Conference at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Honey Royse Tubino had 15 points while reigning NCAA MVP Sandra delos Santos and Thai import Kunbang Pornpimol had 11 apiece for the Rising Suns, who joined Ateneo in third spot on 2-2 (win-loss) records.
The most decisive stretch of the match came in the second set, where the two teams fought to a 25-all standoff before Tubino and Shyrra Cabriana finished it off for Cagayan with a kill and a service ace.
“Kung tutuusin nga din a dapat nag-deuce yung second set eh,” said Cagayan coach Mike Rafael. “Pati yung last two games namin na five setter kami sana panalo doon, pero ganoon pa man panalo kami ngayon.
"Konting ensayo pa para ma-polish yung laro at para mag-gel yung team.”
Fille Cainglet and Allysa Valdez led the Lady Eagles’ attack with 12 and 11 points, respectively, in a game that was delayed for almost an hour because of a brownout in the stadium.
