UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas star Sisi Rondina was reduced to tears after the Tigresses slipped to last place in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament.
A fifth straight loss, this time at the hands of Far Eastern University, 25-21, 25-21, 25-23, left the Tigresses' Final Four hopes hanging by a thread - and their star player in tears.
“Frustrated? Siguro sa standing namin ayun lang,” said Rondina, one of the most popular players in the league owing to her grit and high-flying ways.
“Hindi naman big deal sa akin na ako lang mag-isa ang (tumatrabaho para sa team). Ano ko lang syempre nilalaban nina coach kami and kahit lalaruin na lang namin, hindi pa namin sila kayang ilaban so doon lang naman ako nafu-frustrate,” she added.
UST is now at 2-7, meaning it will no longer be guaranteed a place in the Final Four or even a playoff for one berth even if it sweeps its remaining five matches.
UST coach Kungfu Reyes urged the Tigresses to stay focused in their final five games, even with a Final Four appearance looking more and more remote.
“Masyado nang mabigat pero ‘yun nga kailangan naka concentrate pa rin kami sa upcoming games namin. Just finish na graceful exit lang kami,” said Reyes.
UST will face University of the Philippines on Saturday, National University on March 25, Ateneo on April 4, La Salle on April 8 and Adamson University on April 14.
“Sure kami na tatrabahuhin namin ulit,” Rondina promised.
