SKIDDING teams University of Santo Tomas and University of the Philippines hope to get back on the win column as they face each other on Valentine’s Day in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

The Tigresses and the Lady Maroons square off at 2 p.m.

UST has fallen to fifth spot with a 5-7 card after absorbing back-to-back losses against league heavyweights La Salle and defending champion Ateneo.

The Lady Spikers and Lady Eagles held the Tigresses’ scoring threat of skipper Pam Lastimosa, rookie EJ Laure, and sophomore Ria Meneses to just six and nine points apiece in both games.

Before the skid, the Tigresses were on a four-game winning run.

Just like UST, UP also hopes to stop the bleeding after losing its last three games, including a five-setter collapse against Adamson, 21-25, 13-25, 25-20, 25-22, 12-25.

The Lady Maroons hold a 4-7 slate in a tie with Far Eastern University at sixth spot.

In the second game, FEU aims to end a two-game drought against National University at 4p.m.

The Lady Tamaraws have been at the lower half of the league’s spiking and blocking departments, with Fil-American rookie Jerrili Malabanan serving as the lone bright spot for the team behind her consistent scoring in the past two matches.

Malabanan had nine and six points in the Lady Tamaraws’ loss to UST and Ateneo, respectively.

Currently at third place (5-6), NU is eyeing to book its first back-to-back win of the season behind new coach Roger Gorayeb and the solid line up of Jaja Santiago, Myla Pablo, Desiree Dadang, and Rizza Mandapat.
