University of Santo Tomas' season is taking on a familiar and alarming pattern, but Tigresses coach Kungfu Reyes refuses to panic.

Tagged as one of the pre-tournament favorites with a stacked lineup, the Tigresses are off to a 1-3 (win-loss) start to their UAAP Season 79 women's volleyball campaign after 25-22, 25-22, 29-31, 25-19 loss to in-form University of the Philippines.

After a 0-2 start, UST found a reprieve after getting its first win at the expense of winless University of the East, only to go back to its old ways in a loss to the Lady Maroons.

But a defiant Reyes is not pressing the panic button.

“Actually hindi (kami nagpa-panic) eh, kasi kayang kaya ipanalo (ang next games),” Reyes said. “Kasi you just look at the standings, sino ba ‘yung mga tumalo (sa amin?)

"Kaya lang ‘di kami pwede mag-(relax) lang, kailangan magtrabaho,” he added.

[See UP aware that with impressive start comes heightened expectations]

Reyes is looking to get UST back on the winning track against winless Adamson on Saturday in time for crucial matches against National University (3-1) on March 1 and Far Eastern University (3-1) on March 4.

The outspoken mentor reminded his wards not to give up despite the early struggles.

“Unti-untiin na lang namin (ang next games) very competitive ang taon nag-iimprove lahat, gumagaling,” he said. “Good na nag-improve kami pero ang hinahanap namin doon sa panalo, kailangan namin sumabay para manalo."
