UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas shook off a sluggish start to turn back University of the East, 25-17, 25-23, 25-16, in the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.
The Tigresses, riding the momentum of an upset win over La Salle on Wednesday, swept their season series with UE to improve to 4-4 (win-loss) after booking their second back-to-back victories of the campaign.
UST trailed in the second set, 9-14, before mounting a comeback that saw the Tigresses tie it at 21-all. The third set was a breeze as the Tigresses never looked back after taking a 16-7 lead.
Skipper EJ Laure and Cherry Rondina shared the scoring load as they combined for 25 points for UST.
But UST coach Kungfu Reyes was not pleased to see his players become complacent at the start of the match, giving UE a chance to take control.
Shaya Adorador finished with nine points for UE, which remained winless in 53 games dating back to Season 74.
