UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas started its title-retention campaign on a wrong foot, dropping a 16-21, 21-17, 15-13 loss to Adamson in the UAAP beach volleyball at the MOA Sands by the Bay on Friday.
The Lady Falcons duo of Mylene Paat and Jessica Galanza beat out Tigresses Cherry Rondina and Rica Rivera in a fiercely fought match played under the scorching sun.
Last year's runner up, La Salle pair Cyd Demecillo and Kim Fajardo, also fell flat as Far Eastern University's Bernadette Pons and Kyle Atienza prevailed, 21-15, 17-21, 16-14, in another thriller.
In the other match, National University came back from a set down to beat University of the East, 20-22, 21-19, 15-5.
