UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas downed Far Eastern University, 25-19, 25-21, 25-23, on Sunday for its fourth straight win in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
The Tigresses evened their record to 5-5 and took solo third spot behind league leading Ateneo (10-0) and La Salle (9-1).
Rookie EJ Laure had 17 points to bounce back from an anemic six-point performance in the previous match against National University, while skipper Pam Lastimosa scored 12.
“We sorted out ’yung lack of commitment lalo na sa training and sa laro, nabuhay ulit ang excitement nila sa laro,” said UST coach Odjie Mamon, whose wards have exacted revenge on teams that won over them in the first round, including Adamson and National University.
The Tigresses won in an hour and 29 minutes, completing a two-match sweep of its elimination matches against the Tamaraws.
“Muntik na nga eh, na mabalikan kami ng FEU, dikit ang laban,” said Mamon. “Pero napaghandaan kasi namin.”
No player from FEU scored in double digits, with rookie Jerrili Malabanan leading the Lady Tamaraws with only six points.
The Lady Tamaraws dropped to 4-6, tied for fourth spot with University of the Philippines, National University and Adamson.
