UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas finally got a win run going, downing Adamson University, 25-19, 25-16, 23-25, 25-15, on Saturday for its second straight win in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

The Tigresses looked in fine form, although they again suffered some error-strewn stretches including the third when they were outplayed by the Lady Falcons before recovering to post only their third win against five losses.

Rookie EJ Laure recovered from her five-point production in the Tigresses’ previous match against the FEU Lady Tamaraws, leading the way with 19 points as UST also avenged their first-round loss to Adamson.

Skipper Pam Lastimosa scored 16, Ria Meneses had 14 and Mela Tunay added 12 markers for UST, which posted its first back-to-back wins of the season after suffering five straight losses.

Meneses and Tunay led the solid defense at the net to come up with a combined 10 of the team’s 17 blocks against Adamson's four.

The Tigresses are also so far living up coach Odjie Mamon’s expectations, after the veteran vowed to get back at that defeated them.

The Tigresses are in sixth spot with the Lady Falcons. Amanda Villanueva finished with 14 points for Adamson, while Mylene Paat added 12.

“Yes, yes, hopefully kaya pray lang kami na mabawian namin ’yung mga nakatalo sa amin sa first round,” said Mamon.

“I think we have four more teams na we are looking forward to beating sana so sisipagan pa namin yung training namin,” added the lanky mentor.

UST was leading by two sets and was up by just one in the third, 22-21, when Adamson scored four of the last five points to extend the match.

But the Tigresses put up an early lead in the fourth set, 12-6, and never looked back.

“Chinallenge ko ’yung mga player to review the game against Adamson and to identify what went wrong and to put a remedy,” said Mamon. “Pero ako naman nagbigay ako ng drills sa kanila to improve our teams skills.”

Mamon described the mood of his wards as light despite having practices in three different locations for the past week as UST hosted a event led by Pope Francis.

“Coming to the game maganda yung mood ng mga players mula pa noong last week,” he said. “Kahit paiba-iba kami ng venue ng practice kasi hindi kami makapag-practice sa UST for week so nag practice kami sa Meralco, nagpractice kami dito sa San Juan Arena, sa Lyceum, muntik pa kami mapunta ng Batangas para lang mag-ensayo.”
