UST Tigers, Perpetual Altas score five-set wins to keep group lead in Spikers Turf

UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas and Perpetual Help earned hard-fought victories against separate rivals on Wednesday in the Spikers’ Turf Collegiate Conference at the Philsports Arena.

The Growling Tigers defeated University of the Philippines, 25-20, 25-21, 21-25, 22-25, 15-13, while the Altas downed College of Saint Benilde, 25-23, 25-23, 14-25, 19-25, 15-12, to remain unbeaten after three matches.

UST remained in joint first place with Ateneo in Group B, while Perpetual Help stayed ahead of La Salle, National University, and Far Eastern University.

Manuel Medina led the way for the Growling Tigers with 17 points, while Jomaru Amagan finished with 14 points in the victory, sending UP to its first loss in the conference.

It was also UST’s second win in five-set matches this conference.

Rey Taneo slammed 20 points for the Altas as they survived a tough challenge from the Blazers, who remained winless in three matches.
