JERRY Yee bid University of the Philippines goodbye on Saturday when he resigned as head coach of the women's volleyball team.
"Calling it quits. Thank you UP :)," Yee posted on his Facebook page with his past win-loss records.
The veteran coach, who called the shots for the Lady Maroons for four years, steered the team to a Final Four finish in UAAP Season 78.
Yee, who replaced Jarod Hubalde in Season 76, had a huge hand in turning around the UP volleyball program.
He recruited Diana Carlos and Isa Molde, who were vital cogs in the team’s Season 78 campaign that saw the Lady Maroons end their 13-year Final Four drought in the UAAP. Molde was eventually named Rookie of the Year.
But Season 79 proved to be a tough one for the Lady Maroons.
They had a promising 4-0 start, including a major upset of eventual champion La Salle, only to lose their next four games. Midway through the season, the team lost the services of libero Pia Gaiser due to a knee injury and went on to finish the season at fifth spot with an even 7-7 record.
Yee is currently calling the shots for UP in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference.
