UNIVERSITY of the Philippines kept its Final Four hopes alive in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament with a 25-18, 25–22, 25-25-20 victory over National University on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.
Skipper Tots Carlos led the way for the Lady Maroons with 18 points, while Isa Molde added 10.
UP improved to 4-8, tied for sixth with University of Santo Tomas.
NU is winless in the second round but remained in fourth with a 6-6 record.
La Salle and Ateneo have clinched semifinal berths with 9-2 and 9-3 records, respectively, while Far Eastern University is in third at 7-4.
Adamson is fifth with a 5-6 win-loss record.
“The win feels really good because you see and you know everyone was really working hard to get a win,” said graduating Lady Maroons spiker Ayel Estrañero.
UP plays Ateneo on Saturday and University of the East on April 14.
The Lady Maroons need to sweep their remaining matches and hope the Lady Bulldogs and Lady Falcons won’t reach seven wins.
“Finish strong. That's the motto. That's the work,” said UP coach Godfrey Okumu. “If we finish strong, probably we can turn tables. Things can happen.”
Jaja Santiago scored 19 points for NU.
