UNIVERSITY of the Philippines bagged its first win in the 76th UAAP women's volleyball tournament as it downed University of the East, 25-8, 25-18, 25-16, on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Maroons won after six losses, with rookie Julienne Calugcug, Katherine Bersola and skipper Angeli Araneta coming up with 11 points apiece.
The Diliman-based spikers were in control for most of the match, which they finished in just 69 minutes.
UP proved steadier at the net and came up with eight blocks to four of UE and registered seven service aces against one of the Lady Warriors.
The Lady Maroons also banked on UE's 26 team errors.
Shaya Adorador had nine points for UE, which absorbed its sixth straight loss in the season and 23rd dating back to 2012.
