UNICORNS, powered by standouts of two-time Shakey's V-League champion Ateneo, is fancied as the team to beat in the third edition of the Ateneo Open Tournament that reels off Sunday at the Blue Eagle gym.
Four of the Lady Eagles so-called `Fab 5’ namely Dzi Gervacio, Gretchen Ho, Fille Cainglet, and A Nacachi will banner the Unicorns side, which is seeking to bounce back from last year's sorry loss to Hope Alumni.
Chie Saet, the MVP of last year’s tournament, won't be around this time, but Lady Eagles setter Jem Ferrer will spearhead Hope's bid for a second straight championship in the event presented by Mizuno.
Former Ateneo stalwarts Charo Soriano, Kara Acevedo, Karla Bello, and La Salle stars Ivy Remulla and Anne Remulla are also in Unicorn's star-studded roster.
Bernice Co, South Ramos, Pau Genido, and Angelica Perez are part of Hope’s roster this year.
Bigger prizes await the champions in the women’s and men’s division of the three-day event.
The champion will receive P15,000 cash prize, while the second and third placers will go home with P9,000 and P6,000, respectively.
Other women's teams participating in the tournament which starts at 8 a.m. are Manila Water, ASC, Legacy, Jose Rizal University, Mapua, University of the Philippines, MC Plus, and Accenture Volleyball Club.
