MANY were called but only four came.
Ateneo Lady Eagles star Alyssa Valdez was one of only four players who showed up for the first day of training of the Philippine Under-23 team that will compete in the Asian Women's Volleyball Championship in Manila next month.
From the 13-woman pool released by the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas (LVPI) on March 21, only UAAP back-to-back MVP Valdez, Lady Eagles setter Jia Morado and University of Santo Tomas pair Ria Meneses and EJ Laure were present at the Blue Eagle gym on Monday afternoon.
"Start pa lang naman, kasi 'yung iba nasa bakasyon pa pero baka by the next days makumpleto na kami," said Valdez.
Other members of the pool are Bea de Leon, who's still in vacation in the United States, Kim Fajardo, Dindin and Jaja Santiago, Myla Pablo, Tin Agno, Alyssa Eroa and Christine Rosario.
On the other hand, Gretchel Soltones is in Thailand with national coach Roger Gorayeb for the AVC Beach Volleyaball tournament.
Meanwhile, the men's team under Oliver Almadro also began training with slightly more members present.
UAAP back-to-back MVP and Ateneo top spiker Marck Espejo, Blue Eagles Rex Intal, Ish Polvorosa, Isay Marasigan, UST spiker Romnick Rico and San Beda standout Angelo Torres were present.
