Defending champion Philippine Army clash against Sandugo San Sebastian in a rematch of last year’s finalists and Lady Troopers coach Sgt. Rico de Guzman believes the same tactics will give them a repeat win over the rebranded team in Sunday’s main game of the Shakey’s V League Open Conference at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
“Sa Sandugo kasi isa lang aabangan mo dyan, si Jang Bualee,” said coach Sgt. Rico de Guzman. “You stop Bualee, you stop Sandugo. Yun lang ginawa namin kaya nanalo kami sakanila last year.”
2011 Finals MVP Rachel Anne Daquis and Carolino sisters Michelle and Mayeth will lead the attack as the defending champion Lady Troopers try to take solo lead. Gametime is 6 p.m.
Sandugo, on the other hand, is aching to get back at Philippine Army and Sandugo coach Roger Gorayeb also feels nothing much has changed with their rivals.
“Sa Army, ganoon pa rin,” said Gorayeb. “Paghahandaan namin sila. May isang araw kami para mag practice.”
Bualee, Suzanne Roces, Kaensing Utaiwan and Angela Benting, will be expected to provide the scoring as well as the defensive efforts for the powerhouse squad.
Cagayan will try to end its two-game losing slide as it faces Ateneo de Manila University in the 2p.m. game.
The Rising Suns, who fell short in two five-set matches against Sandugo and Ateneo, will rely on NCAA reigning MVP Sandra delos Santos, Honey Royse Tubino and team captain Joy Cases.
Ateneo is coming off a 25-13,25-18-25-14 win over the Far Eastern University on Friday.
Winless teams FEU and Philippine Navy collide at 4p.m
