UNIVERSITY of the East continued its domination in the UAAP boys’ volleyball tournament, pulling off a ninth straight title after beating National University, 25-18, 25-17, 26-24, over the weekend at the UE Caloocan gym.
It was the 12th title for the Junior Warriors in a span of 18 years or since 1995 when the league introduced the boys’ volleyball competition.
In the girls’ division, Kim Dy and Mia Dizon delivered the killer blows for La Salle-Zobel in a 25-20, 25-7, 20-25, 26-24 victory over NU in their winner-take-all title showdown.
One of the league's most sought-after prospects, the 5-foot-7 Dy ended her high school career with flourish, scoring back-to-back kills for the win.
“Talagang nahirapan kami. Ang hirap tibagin ng NU,” said La Salle-Zobel coach Ace Gacutan. “This time, we showed more guts at ang sipag ng mga bata lumabas, and at the same time the heart to win the game.”
La Salle-Zobel playmaker Andie Narciso was named season MVP and Best Setter, while Dawn Macandili was the tournament’s Best Libero.
Edward Camposano of UE was adjudged MVP in the boys’ division, while teammates Lester Kim Sawal (Best Spiker-Attacker), Evander Monsanto (Best Setter), and Ruel Pascual (Best Coach) were the other individual award recipients.
