UNIVERSITY of the East boys’ volleyball head coach Herbert Dizon passed away on Monday at the age of 53.
The champion mentor succumbed to chronic kidney disease and pancreatic malignancy after nearly a month in a hospital.
Dizon’s passing came just over two months after he orchestrated a dream title run for the UE Junior Red Warriors in UAAP Season 88.
Under his guidance, the young Recto side dethroned erstwhile champion National University Nazareth School (NUNS) in a breakthrough campaign that restored the program’s winning tradition.

The triumph marked UE’s 15th boys’ volleyball championship and ended an 11-year title drought, highlighting Dizon’s immediate impact on the team.
He wasted little time turning UE into contenders again after taking over the program from Raffy Mosuela a season earlier.
In his first year at the helm, Dizon steered UE to a Final Four appearance, signaling the start of an imminent resurgence.
Though the Red Warriors fell short in a grueling five-set loss to NUNS that season, the setback proved to be a stepping stone toward their eventual redemption.
