UAAP Women's Volley preview: DLSU Lady Spikers - Eyeing return to finals with top player Ara Galang back from injury

    Feb 3, 2016
Coach ramil de Jesus has his main player Ara Galang back from knee injury.

    Last year’s finish: Runner-up

Key losses: Desiree Cheng (injury), Camille Cruz (injury)

New players: Norielle Ipac, May Luna, Carmel June Saga, Ernestine Grace Tiamzon

ARA Galang is back as La Salle tries to regain the title but Desiree Cheng and Camille Cruz are out due to knee injuries as Season 78 women’s volleyball starts.

Focus will be on Galang, who will still have the familiar support crew of Mika Reyes, Cyd Demecillo and Kim Fajardo.

Also expected to come up with the numbers are rookies Norielle Ipac from Kings Montessori School, May Luna of Tagum City National High School, Carmel June Saga out of Dona Hortencia Salas and Ernestine Grace Tiamzon from Moscrop Secondary School.

“For me lahat naman eh, nag-improve kami lahat sa team,” said Galang.

“Lahat kami sa team may maitutulong, so team effort talaga. Kasi team sport siya kaya important na mag play kami as a team.”

Back-to-back champion Ateneo is still the team-to-beat, according to the 21-year-old Galang, but she noted each match against other teams will also be crucial.

“Main goal is championship pero bago ka makarating doon kailangan mo munang isa-isahin ang mga kalaban mo sa eliminations, one step at time, one team at a time,” she said.

Galang is back from knee injuries she suffered during their stepladder semifinals against National University.

“Syempre new season, it’s a fresh start for the team basta gagawin lang ng team kung ano ang kaya,” she said. “Pero sa akin wala na ’yung fear na ma-injure ulit. Totally tinanggal ko sa na sa isip ko ’yun. Ngayon nagfofocus ako sa pwede kong gawin para sa team ko.”

Although all eyes are on them, Galang does not want to expect too much to avoid disappointments.

“’Yun naman ang ine-expect sa akin, ang magkaroon ng major comeback. Pero sa akin naman gagawin ko lang ang best ko, kung ano ang makakaya ko and gagawin ko ’yung makakabuti para sa team,” she said.

“Siguro ’wag na lang mag-expect masyado para ’wag ma-disappoint. Kasi kapag may expectations may disappointments so basta ako naman ibibigay ko lang ang full ko, ang lahat ng kaya ko.”
