IF National University was an in-sync orchestra playing beautiful music to its spectators’ delight, then Lams Lamina was its master conductor.

Lamina was masterful at the lead, coming out with 33 excellent sets as the Lady Bulldogs outlasted their rivals the UST Golden Tigresses in five sets to close out Round 1 of the UAAP Season 87 Women’s Volleyball tournament unscathed.

With every beat of Lamina’s hands at the Mall of Asia Arena, her spikers were shining – making things easier for her brilliant quartet of attackers in the rematch of the UAAP Season 86 finals.

“Mapaganda ko na yung bola or distribution ko sa spikers ko, malaking bagay na po yun,” the 22-year-old setter said.

In this match, four players breached double-digits with Alyssa Solomon leading the charge at 24, Bella Belen adding 19 and Vange Alinsug and Erin Pangilinan chipping in 17 and 12 respectively.

That balanced attack was a testament to the even distribution of the fiery setter and she couldn’t be prouder of her teammates who made sure to not put her masterful sets to waste.

“Sabi nga nila non-scoring talaga yung setter. And tingin ko yung macocontribute ko talaga is makakuha lang ng isang block, malaking bagay na ‘yon.”

Aside from being the court general of the defending champions, Lamina also embraces the role of being the vocal leader of this team alongside its skipper in Belen.

“Siguro, ‘yung paglilead ko, yung pagiging composed ko inside the court,” she responded when asked about her role in this repeat run for the Lady Bulldogs.

“Nagmemeeting kami every night, nagbibigayan lang kami ng confidence, ng trust,” she added.

The Lady Bulldogs will try to continue their unbeaten streak in a match anew with UST on the second round set on March 22.
