ALYSSA Solomon did not see action in National University’s shock second loss in UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball to Adamson.

Unlike its late five-set collapse to University of the Philippines, it only took four sets for super rookie Shaina Nitura - who erupted for 32 points - and the rest of the Lady Falcons to dispatch the defending champions.
The score? 23-25, 25-15, 26-28, 22-25 in Adamson’s favor.
While reigning MVP Bella Belen did her usual deeds both on offense and defense with 19 points, 21 receptions and nine digs, Solomon’s absence proved too big a void for the Lady Bulldogs.
Alas Pilipinas ace Arah Panique stepped up in her absence with a 10-point performance built on six attacks, two blocks and two aces.
Last-minute notice on Solomon absence
But why did Solomon not play despite being in uniform and even warming up moments before the game?
A minor training incident on the eve of their Adamson match was the culprit.
“Kahapon naman sa training, nu’ng patapos na yung training, nagka-minor [left ankle] sprain siya. Kanina lang po namin nalaman na medyo may pain pa nu’ng warm-up,” Belen bared.
“Naisip namin na baka hindi siya paglaruin kasi siyempre, kailangan yung health din ng player, hindi naman naming pwedeng ipilit kasi baka lalo pong lumala ngayong padulo na po at patapos na ng elimination [round].
“Mas priority ng team yung health ni ate Aly [Solomon].”
With both Solomon and NU head coach Sherwin Meneses heading out early after the Lady Bulldogs’ loss, it remains unclear whether the reigning best opposite spiker will be back in time for their 12th match of the season against University of the East on Wednesday.
As it stands at 9-2, National U is already assured of a Final Four spot and needs two more wins to clinch a twice-to-beat advantage.
