ROOKIE sensation Eya Laure is keeping her feet on the ground as the builds up ahead of her debut for University of Santo Tomas in Season 81 of the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.
For so long regarded as the best high school player in the country, Laure, like all players from the K-12 program, had to wait far longer to make their college debut.
But the younger sister of UST star EJ Laure has made waves long before that with impressive stints with the Tigresses in Philippine Superliga Collegiate Grand Slam, Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference and University Games 2018.
That explains the hype surrounding her debut.
But Eya, at least, is not letting it go to her head.
“Hindi ko sinisink-in na, ‘O kapag UAAP for sure si Eya Laure yung mag-Rookie of the Year.’ Sa akin kasi, mas more on kung paano 'yung magiging performance ng team ngayon yung mas importante,” Laure said.
“Kumbaga yung individual awards siguro bonus na lang siya as a player.”
The former UAAP girls volleyball MVP said that she has been competing long enough at the be able to handle the pressure.
The Best Opposite Spiker of PSL Grand Slam said she still had a lot of things to work on, especially after losing to the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons in the finals and settled for silver.
Training camps in Thailand and Baguio should sharpen the Tigresses for the coming season.
