LA SALLE weathered a Shaina Nitura supertyphoon for Adamson, foiling the latter’s upset bid in five sets, 25-19, 21-25, 22-25, 25-18, 15-4, in UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball on Wednesday at Mall of Asia Arena.
Angel Canino made such a comeback happen with a 21-point, 23-reception double-double.

Shevana Laput might've taken player of the game honors with 21 points built on 16 attacks, three aces and two blocks, but it was Shane Reterta that came alive in the fifth set. The rookie winger was responsible for four markers in the Lady Spikers' tiebreak total.
La Salle also spoiled Lady Falcons' rookie-captain Nitura’s record sixth 30-piece of the season and fourth in a row.
This time, Nitura had 35 — four away from breaking the league’s single-game scoring record which she also set. For the fourth time, however, all her efforts yet again ended in defeat.

Nitura had 29 in the first three sets alone, but was held to just six in the last two sets combined.
La Salle keeps second seed race interesting
More than anything, the win gives La Salle a much-needed push in its bid to secure the last twice-to-beat incentive.
By drawing level with University of Santo Tomas at 9-4, the green-and-white can capture an outright Top Two finish in prelims play with a win over Far Eastern University and a UST loss to National U this weekend.
If the Lady Spikers beat the Lady Tamaraws, but the Golden Tigresses win over the Lady Bulldogs, there will be a one-game playoff for the No. 2 seed and the twice-to-beat advantage.
Moreover, only a UST loss can still keep La Salle’s Top Two bid alive if it loses to FEU in its prelims finale.
